Formerly Total Nigeria Plc, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc has been a major player in Nigeria’s energy sector for over six decades, active in exploration & production, natural gas, downstream marketing, and increasingly in renewables. The company operates a wide network of service stations for fuel sales.
TotalEnergies began operations and commissioned its first filling station at Herbert Macaulay, Yaba Lagos, Nigeria in 1956 and became a public company in 1978.
The company merged with Elf Oil Nigeria Limited, which commenced globally in 1999, and was completed in Nigeria in 2002.
One of its upstream moves includes the renewal of its license for OML 130, a deep offshore block, in which it holds about 24 % interest. Also, in February 2025, TotalEnergies was awarded two offshore exploration permits: PPL 2000 & 2001 in Nigeria’s West Delta basin.
The company commenced production at the Akpo West field in 2024, which is tied back to its existing Akpo FPSO facility. The Akpo West field adds condensate production and will also contribute gas later on.
On the downstream / marketing side, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc posted very strong figures recently. In 2024, its revenue reached ₦1.04 trillion, up about 64 % from ₦636 billion in 2023, with its profit before tax (PBT) more than doubling.
