Poly Products Nigeria Limited, the flagship company of Poly Group, is one of Nigeria’s established manufacturers of packaging materials and plastic containers, with a history stretching back over fifty years. Incorporated 1965, the company began operations in 1966.
At its inception, the company’s core activity involved the manufacture and printing of types of polyethylene (PE) film, particularly plain film and then printed film. Poly Products aimed to bring hygienic packaging to products like bread and other bakery items, importing technology and machinery (notably from Japan and Germany) for these early lines.
The company started its operations in Lagos and by 1974, the company has expanded its operations to Ogun and Aba States to cater to local agriculture industry. Poly Group has set up multiple manufacturing plants in different parts of Nigeria. Among its locations are Lagos (Ilupeju), Otta, Aba, Kaduna, Jos. Different plants specialize in varying product types. For example, its rigid packaging operations or flexible film lines are often produced in different plants to optimize for production type and cost.
The company became a public liability company in 1979 and was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange that same year. That listing made it the first packaging concern to go public in Nigeria. However, in 2005, Poly Products voluntarily delisted and is now a privately held limited liability company.
