Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB) is the largest brewing company in Nigeria, and one of the most recognized names in the food & beverage sector in the country. Founded on November 16, 1946, as Nigerian Brewery Limited, it has since grown into a major player in the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of beer, stout, malt, and soft drinks.
The company operates multiple breweries and production facilities across Nigeria, with a broad product portfolio, including flagship brands such as Star Lager Beer (which was first introduced in 1949), Heineken, Gulder, Amstel Malta, Malta Guinness, Fayrouz, Goldberg, Tiger, Star Lite, and several others.
The company is listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) under the ticker “NB.” Its major shareholders include Heineken Brouwerijen B.V., Distilled Trading International B.V., and institutional investors.
The company currently has nine fully operational breweries across Nigeria, and it exports to Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and some parts of Africa. Nigerian Breweries became a publicly traded company in 1973, listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
In recent years, NB has been through both turbulent and promising periods. For full year 2024, it achieved a major revenue milestone, surpassing ₦1.08 trillion, up ~80-81% from approximately ₦599.6 billion in 2023.
NB has also expanded its product scope beyond beer. A notable move is the full acquisition of Distell Wines & Spirits Nigeria Limited (DWSN).
