The rich history of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) dates back to 1951 in Nigeria, when a Greek-Cypriot entrepreneur, A.G. Leventis, established it in Nigeria. Since then, its business has evolved to become an essential global partner of The Coca-Cola Company. Expanding its horizons, the company acquired the Hellenic Bottling Company, a Coca-Cola bottling franchise in Greece, in 1981. Then, following a merger in 2001, the company was renamed Coca-Cola HBC.
Over the years, the company has built a strong symbiotic relationship within the Coca-Cola system. The Coca-Cola Company owns, develops, and markets its brands with the end consumers, while Coca-Cola HBC, as its strategic bottling partner, is responsible for producing, distributing, and selling these beverages, as well as for trade marketing to our customers.
Today, the Coca-Cola HBC, of which the Nigerian Bottling Company is a member, serves over 600 million consumers while operating in 29 countries across three continents. We are a growth-focused Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) business and one of the world’s largest strategic bottling partners of The Coca-Cola Company, producing and distributing more than 2 billion unit cases of our products annually.
The company has partnered with other select beverage businesses such as Monster Energy, Edrington, and Brown-Forman, thereby expanding its portfolio continuously.
The company’s core values are: “customer first”, “we over I”, “deliver sustainability”, and “make it simple”. Its sustainability commitment includes emissions reduction across its whole value chain by 2040, as well as reducing water by 20% in plants located in water risk areas.
The company has also initiated a programme to collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one introduced into the market by 2030.
