Mouka Limited, established in 1959 in Kano by the Moukarim family through the Moukarim Metalwood factory, initially produced furniture and iron beds. In 1972, the company formally launched Mouka in Lagos as a polyurethane foam manufacturer to support the furniture and bedding industry.
Today, Mouka is a dominant player in Nigeria’s sleep and bedding market, producing upwards of 800,000 mattresses and over 13 million kg of foam annually, with operations spanning three factories across Lagos, Benin, and Kaduna. The company also has over a thousand branded outlets and third-party distributors.
It was the first Nigerian foam company to back its mattresses with a quality warranty, embrace ISO 9001-certified laboratories (since 1999), and phase out CFC-based foaming agents by 1992, demonstrating early commitments to innovation and environmental sustainability.
Originally family-owned, Mouka was acquired by Actis in 2007, transferred to Abraaj Group, and later re-acquired by Actis in 2019. In 2021, the company became part of Dolidol International Group (Morocco) through an investment led by Development Partners International (DPI), a USD 60 million deal aimed at leveraging Dolidol’s global sleep‑industry expertise and supporting Mouka’s African expansion.
