ABOUT

Lafarge Africa Plc is a major building materials company in Nigeria and one of the foremost producers of cement, concrete, aggregates, and mortar products in the country. Cement makes up the overwhelming majority of Lafarge Africa’s sales, accounting for around 97% in 2024.

Its history stretches back decades, formerly trading under names such as West African Portland Cement Company, WAPCO. Lafarge used to be a part of the Holcim Group and in December 2024, the company announced selling its entire stake in the company to Huaxin Cement Ltd.

Lafarge Africa operates cement plants in multiple locations, including Ewekoro and Sagamu in the South-West, Mfamosing in the South-South, and Ashaka in the North-East of Nigeria. The installed cement production capacity is about 10.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Lafarge Africa also maintains a significant readymix concrete business, with plants in Lagos (Oregun, Victoria Island, Lekki), Ogun (Ewekoro), Port Harcourt (Trans-Amadi), and Abuja (Idu), totaling six commercial batching plants, supplemented by a central laboratory in Lagos.

In recent years, Lafarge Africa has posted strong financial results, showing substantial growth. For the full year ended 2024, it recorded revenue of ₦696.7 billion, up roughly 72% year-on-year from the prior year. Pre-tax profit for 2024 was about ₦152.2 billion, nearly double the figure in 2023.
