ABOUT

Originally part of the British multinational The Imperial Chemical Industries Plc, Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc’s Nigerian operations began in 1957 as ICI Exports Limited. The company later became known as ICI Nigeria Limited in 1965, and three years later, the company was subsumed by ICI Paints Limited.

Sixty percent of the company’s share was divested to the Nigerian public as a result of the indigenisation decree, and the company’s name was changed to Chemical and Allied Products Plc.

In 1992, UAC of Nigeria acquired majority control while CAP transitioned into a publicly listed entity on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. CAP is the sole technological licensee for AkzoNobel in Nigeria and represents Hempel Paints South Africa in the marine coatings segment.

A major turning point came in July 2021 when CAP merged with Portland Paints & Products, consolidating its position as the leading paint manufacturer in Nigeria.

CAP operates state-of-the-art manufacturing and blending facilities, supplying decorative and industrial coatings under brands such as Dulux (premium), Caplux, Sandtex (standard), and Hempel (marine/protective).

The company pioneered the Colour Centre concept in 2005, offering branded retail studios nationwide. Post-merger, CAP runs 104 outlets across Nigeria’s major cities.
