ABOUT

Berger Paints Plc was established in 1959 as British Paints (West Africa) and started importing paints from Newcastle. It was established as a subsidiary of Lewis Berger Group, a global brand with roots dating back to the 1700s in the United Kingdom.

At its inception, distribution was done through outlets of PZ, Brossettee, and VYB. By 1969, the company started the production of top-quality decorative paints under the international brand, ROBIALLAC. It eventually expanded into industrial and marine coatings to meet the needs of Nigeria’s manufacturing and construction sectors.

The company was acquired by Berger, Johnson & Nicholson in 1969 through an offshore arrangement, and it became Berger Paints Nigeria Limited. The Nigerian Enterprise Promotion Decree of 1972 necessitated that some of the company’s owners divest, selling 60% of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1973, becoming the first paint manufacturer to be listed on the stock exchange.

By 1999, the company had bought back all its shares from owners except for the ones listed on the stock exchange and achieved 100% Nigerian ownership by 2009.

Commenced production of premium quality decorative paint under the international name LUXOL in 1975 and TEXTCOTE fire retardant in 1978.

It changed its name to Berger Paints Plc in 1989. The company started the production of industrial coatings, marine & protection coatings, AUTOLUX, BERGERNOL & LIGNOLAC between 1999 and 2009.

Berger Paints Plc is one of Nigeria’s most renowned and enduring paint manufacturing companies. Berger Colour World, the company’s store that showcases the company’s products, is designed to bring the company closer to its customers.

The company’s operations are anchored at its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Lagos, which was upgraded in recent years to incorporate automated and environmentally friendly production processes.
