Tunde Onakoya is a Nigerian National Chess Master and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, a non-profit using chess to connect children in underserved communities to education, mentorship, and opportunity. Since 2018, the initiative has impacted over 10,000 kids and awarded 500+ scholarships. In 2025, Tunde played chess for 64 hours in Times Square, which earned him a Guinness World Record to raise funds for Africa’s largest free school for vulnerable children.
A gifted speaker and storyteller, Tunde has spoken at TEDx, the Oxford Africa Conference, and DLD Conference. He’s been featured by BBC, CNN, and Al Jazeera, and was named one of Ranks Africa’s 100 Most Impactful Africans. His honours include The Future Awards Africa, JCI TOYP, and The Royal African Award. Tunde continues to prove that bold dreams can spark lasting change, no matter where they begin.
