ABOUT

Corona Schools’ Trust Council began in 1955 under the initiative of the Corona Women’s Society. In 1954, Mrs. Anne MacDonald, then headmistress of a Lagos school, proposed founding a small school for children of all races aged 3-5, with the first Corona Day Nursery opened in March 1955 in Ikoyi, Lagos, with just five pupils.

The school was initially funded via a £50 donation plus gifts from well-wishers. Over the decades, Corona Schools have expanded across Lagos and Ogun States. The first few campuses included Ikoyi, Ebute-Metta, Apapa, Yaba (later relocated to Gbagada), and Victoria Island.

In 1992, Corona established its secondary school in Agbara, Ogun State, the only secondary boarding campus outside Lagos in the network. The network now comprises eight schools, preschools through secondary level, plus a College of Education.

Corona aims to blend Nigerian and British curricula. In the nursery, it uses Montessori methods; primary levels combine the Nigerian curriculum with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Secondary schools use both Nigerian and British frameworks, preparing students for exams like IGCSE, WASSCE/UTME, and others.

The Agbara Secondary School is notable: it is one of the 12 secondary schools in Africa to be accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
